K12HSN Budget Update
Tuesday, July 10th, 2007

After weeks of waiting, we have learned that the $1.9M in one-time funds needed to fund Year 1 of the Technology Refresh Plan survived the conference committee process and remain part of the budget being sent back to the Governor.

We have every confidence that the version of the State Budget to be signed by the Governor will contain the Refresh funding. We will confirm this news once the budget is signed by Governor Schwarzenegger.

K12HSN staff - in the person of Jeffrey Enz - is working with potential upgrade sites to complete our inquiry process prior to authorizing new circuit orders with CENIC. In addition, K12HSN is working with CENIC on a plan to replace the aging 7507 routers with new models. Node Site staff members will assist in coordinating the return of the 7507 routers for an exchange credit with Cisco making the purchase of new routers possible.

Also, in order to fulfill our charge to get 100% of districts and schools connected, Jeff will also be making contact with non-connected districts throughout the state.  He will be collecting information related to their connectivity and reasons for not connecting to date.  If you would like to contact Jeff directly for further information, he is available at (760)312-6158 or at jenz@icoe.org .

The program appreciates the advocacy and support provided by each school, district, and county office of education during this California State Budget cycle, and look forward to an efficient refresh of the network to serve schools statewide.
