Riverside Virtual School
Friday, February 8th, 2008

Riverside Virtual School (RVS) was established in 2007 to offer access to high-quality, interactive online classes for students attending school or living within the Riverside Unified School District attendance area. Current partnership efforts are expanding access to courses for students in school districts throughout California. Innovative leadership and planning allows school districts to offer increased access to online learning resources in traditional face-to-face classrooms, as well as provide academic support for home-schooled students from the local community.

It is the RVS mission to provide a comprehensive catalog of rigorous, college-preparatory online classes that serve to both extend and reinforce courses offered at individual schools. This includes opportunities for credit recovery, intervention and/or remediation, accelerated learning opportunities, and increased access to Advanced Placement courses.

Riverside
Virtual School
is currently enrolling full-time high school students for the 2008-2009 school year. Current RUSD students who are seeking a full-time online school program, as well as local homeschoolers and/or students who qualify for an inter-district transfer from surrounding school districts, may apply to begin classes in August of 2008. Call the RVS office for details.

The Riverside Virtual School program is generating high levels of interest across North America. Parents and students have initiated contact inquiring how they can enroll in RVS courses from home.

District leaders from all over California are interested in developing partnerships that would allow their students to participate in RVS courses. Discussions regarding how these partnerships can be best facilitated are ongoing and will potentially lead to very exciting collaboration efforts between educators across the country. The impact of the RVS Professional Learning Community is VIRTUALLY limitless!

RVS staff will continue advocacy work with key State and Federal decision-makers in order to drive changes in existing laws that negatively affect the expansion of virtual or online school programs.
