Brokers of Expertise

Many school reform projects have been performed on an individual school or district basis. However, it is imperative that a state as large and complex as California learns to share sound educational solutions to common issues.

The fact that some low-achieving schools succeed while others with similar challenges continue to struggle is persuasive evidence of the need to disseminate successful practices in a more meaningful manner.

The California Department of Education (CDE) recognizes the urgent need to connect educators with one another to enable them to collaborate and think more critically about their practice and to provide them effective tools as they attempt to close the achievement gap and raise overall student achievement across our large and diverse state.

Working with the K-12 High Speed Network (K12HSN), the CDE has established the Brokers of Expertise (BoE) initiative to embrace technology and provide effective tools and resources to schools and districts as they strive to reach ambitious goals for student achievement.

The BoE project will accomplish this by offering online resources that:
Provide classroom tools and resources that are aligned to California Content Standards
Provide resources that are searchable by grade, content level and demographic information
Provide opportunities for creating and publishing high-quality content that has proven effective for teachers
Facilitate communication and dialogue with educators across the state who have similar questions
