Transferring an existing course into Calaxy Moodle
Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

Existing Moodle courses can easily be transfered into Calaxy Moodle.

The first step would be to create a new course in Calaxy Moodle.

To do so, please fill out the form at:

http://www.k12hsn.org/calaxy/moodle/

Once we set up your Calaxy Moodle course, you will be able to transfer the content of your course by doing a “Backup” of your existing course and doing a “Restore” in Calaxy Moodle.

Here are the steps to follow to complete Moodle’s Backup/Restore process:

1.    Go to your existing Moodle course

2.    Under the Administration tab, click “Backup”

3.    Click “Continue”

4.    Click “Continue” again

5.    You should see “Backup completed successfully” at the bottom of the next page

6.    Click “Continue”

7.    Right-click on the zip file you’ve just created, the one dated with today’s date and “Save Target As”

8.    Save this zip file onto your computer.

9.    Next, go to your new Calaxy Moodle course, log into your account

10.  Under the Administration tab, click “Restore”

11.  Click “Upload a file”

12.  Click “Browse”

13.  Select the zip file you just saved

14.  Click “Open” then “Upload this file”

15.  Once the file has been uploaded, click “Restore”

16.  Moodle will ask you whether you want to continue, click “Yes”

17.  Then click “Continue”

18.  Select “Restore to current course adding data to it”

19.  Click “Continue”

20.  Click “Restore this course now” Please note that it may take a while

21. At the bottom of the next page, you should see “Restore Completed Successfully”, click “Continue”

22.  All your information should now appear in your Calaxy Moodle course!

Each time I attempt to upload the backup created (step 14) the upload fails- I get a error code -id missing
I also tried this with a file of a course that is not mine - backup file was shared so I could use content- and it gets the same message. After looking on moodle help for "Restore Problem "Required parameter (id) was missing" it seems that my file is too large and I need to ftp - I dont know what this means. Can you help me restore this shared course?
