Established Goals: Second Grade students will be able to identify and discuss individuals and their behaviors that exhibit the characteristics of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.  They will share their findings using written and technological communication tools in the form of a friendly letter.

Language Arts Content Standard  2.2 Write a friendly letter complete with the date, salutation, body, closing, and signature.

Social Studies Standard  2.5 Students understand the importance of individual action and character and explain how heroes from long ago and the recent past have made a difference in others’ lives.


Understandings:

Students will understand that:

The choices that we make and the behaviors that we exhibit define who we are. 

 Trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship are characteristics that are encouraged and desired around the world.

People around the world are faced with similar character challenges and must make choices based on these six primary character traits.


Essential Questions:

How do you write a friendly letter?

Why is it important to be a good person?

Tell me about a ______ person that you know.  How do you know that they are ______?

 What choices does a ________ make and what do they say that make you believe that they are someone you admire and want to be like?
