Internet Safety Wiki
School districts are looking at district-wide planning and implementation of Internet Safety education and cyberbullying awareness on campuses.
This space has been set up for Twin Rivers Unified School District to assist in planning for the Internet Safety education soon to be required for schools receiving E-rate funding. I have given Sarah DiRuscio and Steve Scott permissions to add to this page. If you want to be added to this page, contact Sarah and Steve.
Why Districts Can't Just Keep Doing the Same Thing
One major reason for this planning is the law passed last year requiring schools districts seeking CIPA(The Children's Internet Protection Act) compliance to add Internet Safety training to the three components of compliance. CIPA is tied to Erate funding for Internet Access, Internal Connections and Internal Connections and Maintenance (Internal Connections include routers, wireless access points, servers and wiring classrooms for connectivity). The FCC has proposed that the following rule :
Applicants would have to certify that they are, as part of [their] internet safety policy, "...educating minors about appropriate online behavior, including interacting with other individuals on social networking web sites and in chat rooms and cyber bullying awareness and response."

More about CIPA
Possible Components of Internet Safety education in line with the new CIPA requirements:
Appropriate online behavior
interacting with other individuals on social networking web sites
interacting with other individuals in chat rooms
CyberBullying
awareness
response
Beyond the basics proposed, what other areas do you see as part of Internet Safety education?
Planning the Curriculum
Look at the components that will probably be required for E-rate funding, and outline topics.
What materials will be covered at different school levels?
Primary
Elementary
Middle School
High School
Who is going to cover the material with students?
What will the training look like for staff?
How will this training be verified by the administration?
For Primary and Elementary materials, can they be integrated with Character Education and Safety training?
