K12HSN Interactive Desktop Solution (KIDS): Free Desktop Videoconferencing for Teachers
The K12HSN Interactive Desktop Solution (KIDS) program provides Polycom’s PVX desktop videoconferencing software in order to bring videoconferencing into the classroom. The program is available for all K-12 educators working for a California school.
The program consist of 3 different components: - Application Process - Online Training - Accountability Reporting
Application Process The application process requires you to obtain the signatures of both your school or district administrator and the technical support administrator. The signature forms are included in the application packet. The reason for requiring these signatures is to help ensure your successful participation in the program. Notifying and seeking approval from these individuals will prevent surprises and secure support, for instance if you need to purchase a camera, and ensure you have the minimum hardware and network requirements to successfully install and utilize the software. To avoid any problems that may occur after the training, we require these signatures prior to being able to participate in the training.
Online Training The second component is training. The training is being conducted online, allowing you to go through the curriculum at your own pace. It should take approximately five hours to complete the entire training. Once you have completed the training and have passed the final exam, you will be sent a copy of Polycom’s PVX software at no cost ($150 value).
Accountability Reporting The final component of the program is accountability reporting. The K12HSN will contact you at 3 and 6 months to request a brief written update telling us how you have been utilizing your videoconferencing capabilities and how it has impacted the work you do.
