Well the CUE conference has come and gone quicker than the blink of an eye. We had a lot of preparation that went into the CUE conference. The HSN was launching a suite of Web 2.0 tools for the educational community, we had a booth to market those tools, and I had a couple of presentations.
We were able to launch our suite of tools, edZone at CUE. We had a lot of genuine interest in the product. Many people who stopped by the booth really wanted to know about edZone and were willing to listen to what we had to say. In the past people really didn't would stop by the booth because they wanted the freebies, but this time they still wanted the freebies, but they also wanted to know about edZone.
My first presentation was about the HSN and the services that we have to offer. I felt the presentation went well, but I did have a couple of people who gave me a "not-so-good" evaluation because they felt it was focused to much on the infrastucture and technical aspects of the HSN. I can understand where they are coming from but we do have a number of services related to that. In my defense I did spend over half the sesssion talking about the non-techy services of the HSN. Regardless, next year I'll make sure to do a session which is more geared toward the target audience of teachers.
My second presentation was about advanced videconferencing and streaming. This session went very well in my opinon and from what I read on my evaluations. I think a couple of people were looking for something a little more entry level, but I made it know this was a session for those already knowledgable about videoconferencing. I was a little worried about this session prior to doing it. I wasn't sure how the session was going to flow, I was worried about the limited connectivity, and doing a live videoconferencing and streaming demo.
A gift from the gods came to me during that presentation, in that none of the technologies failed. I was able to get to the internet to show some of the advanced features of K12video, I was able to do a videoconference demonstration, and do a live stream and it all worked! :) These types of presentations are much more impactful when you can do not just show. One of my goals from the presentation was to try and enlighten people about some of the advanced things that can be done with videoconferncing and with streaming. I think I was able to do this, I think people are still getting comfortable with videoconferencing and have not taken it to that next level yet. But I think the attedees at this session will be taking it to that next level.
That's my call and upon further review, the call stands!
