We sure hit the ground running with edZone last week at CUE and what a great experience it was.
During my tenure with ICOE, I have had the opportunity to work on a number of projects. Regardless of the outcome of the project the valuable lesson has always been that of experience. One component that comes from experience is that one may have the best idea in the world, but if that idea is not adopted and used it may not have been as valuable as initially thought.
There have been a few instances over my career where the model of “Let’s build it and they will come” actually came and went. That is where the experience has allowed me to be more realistic about projects and not to be overly optimistic that we are on the verge of releasing the next best thing.
I don’t want to say that edZone was born under pessimism but surely with a bit of skepticism on my part. The concept of edZone has been talked about within the halls of the K12HSN and my office for a long time. It always seemed to be delayed for other more important projects. You see edZone is a complex tool that requires a lot of work and energy to fully realize the potential of such a tool, and committing the resources to do this was a tough call. As if on “CUE” the call really wasn’t that tough as all the elements seemed to be lining up showing us we needed to move forward with edZone.
For the first time in my years at CUE where we have had a booth, I genuinely felt like people wanted to hear about our product. We had a number of people who stopped by and told us that they were told by someone else to stop by and learn about edZone. This was very refreshing for me, and also a symbolic validation that we have done the right thing. Now comes the true validation in getting people to use it.
Sure we have had a few hiccups over the recent days, but we are getting them worked out and I believe will have a product that will be hard to match and extremely beneficial to the educational community in California.
To all of you who stopped by the K12HSN’s booth or came to one of my presentations, I want to say thanks. It is all the oohs, and aahs showing true excitement about what we are doing which makes me enjoy this job even more!
I'll have another post very soon which will outline some of the upcoming features of edZone, so stay tuned!
That's my call and upon further review, the call stands!
