Back from CUE
Saturday, March 8th, 2008
I just arrived home from the CUE conference and rather than discuss all the neat things I saw and the wonderful people I reconnected with I thought I would just reflect on my presentation. (Because we all know its all about me).
I felt I could have done better.
But on the other hand it was my first presentation on Web 2.0 - I learned a lot just from the process of putting the presentation together and then presenting it.
Surprises:
1. There were a bunch of questions right from the beginning. I really wanted to do a beginners guide to Web 2.0 but I assumed way too much. I also tried to cover too much in just one hour. I think I needed to either help everyone get comfortable with the definition of Web 2.0 or focus on only one application. I way over reached and that unfortunately confused some folks (if you are reading this I apologize).
2. The technology worked and didn't work. I had a fairly slow internet connection and I kept losing my Wiki page - I was linking in from my Google presentation and it opened the page in a different window that disappeared as I moved back to the presentation. At least that what I think kept happening. That slowed me down and I lost some folks as I hunted for my lost page.
3. People really want to know about what is happening with 2.0 - the number of participants, the variety of participants (teachers, admins, tech people etc.) they were all there to learn about something they didn't know about.
4. I would do it again in a heartbeat (not really a surprise) - I have new ideas on how to make it a tighter presentation and how to gear it even more to those who, as some one person shared, "Don't have a clue".
I have already added a FAQ page to my Wiki (http://rschultz.pbwiki.com) and will continue to look for ways to develop a great resource for those who are catching up on Web 2.0. Send me any suggestions.

Monday, March 10th, 2008 @ 8:42 AMHello Randy,
It was good to see you at CUE. I'm sorry I wasn't able to attend your session. I liked reading your reflections and think I will do the same thing. I hope you like the edZone tools and please let us know if you find things you feel would be beneficial to add.
