R U with it?

The Sunday New York Times ran an article on texting and the gap between parents and their kids when it comes to using their cell phone to communicate. (find it here: http://tinyurl.com/yue8cm )As a father of four girls (16, 19, 23, 25) I can relate to the message in the article. Basically I had to learn to text so that I could communicate with my family. One daughter never answers her phone but always replies to a text. My biggest problem is that I am so slow at it - and it requires me to find and put on my reading glasses.

Then there is this article: http://tinyurl.com/399xzg about an online University in Japan - all done over cell phones. The instructors can send presentations and monitor time on task.

What does all this mean?
I'm not totally sure but perhaps the $100 laptop is actually a handheld device. (or maybe it's a $50 laptop)

Personally I'm holding out for rings like they have in Zardoz.

You are so right. It is not just our kids of also the folks we are working with. Our secretary is in her mid 20's and I remember sitting at lunch one day watching her text -- I could have produced one in in the time she had a whole dialog! I heard an interesting story on Market Place the other day about how young people (boy I sound old don't I?) are meeting via bluetooth. This happens to be happening in Saudi Arabia where men and women are not allowed to be near each other so.... nature finds a way via technology!
