Adult Learning Activities

By Sacramento County Office of Education (Region 3)

The Adult Learning Activities Web site has been developed by the California Distance Learning Project under funding made available through the California Department of Education. The purpose of the Web site is to help adults improve basic reading and spelling using real-life stories on topics of interest to adults. The stories are based on television news stories aired by CNN and ABC.

The site is free and does not require registration or sign-in. Each story includes the following activities: Full Story, Basic Story, Learn New Words, Spell a Word, Matching Game, Pick and Answer, What Did You Learn?, Write and Answer, and Learn More at Other Web Sites. Most of the activities include extensive use of audio and some of the stories include the original news story video. The site also includes a simple tracking system that allows the learner to printout or email the activity scores to an instructor.
