District Technology Planning Steps
Preparing to write:
The first step is to review the expiring technology plan if there is one. After that, consult the Online Technology Planning Guide document currently being revised by the CDE. The guide is still a draft, but it guides the district, COE, or direct-funded charter school on issues from who should be included in tech planning discussions to sample charts for the plan.
Writing the plan:
Once the stakeholders have met, the writing team has been established, and the Technology Planning Guide has been reviewed, it's time to get writing. Begin by looking at Appendix C for the EETT Formula Grant. This is the criteria that determines which plans pass state-level review. Consider choosing a writing template. CTAP has collected various templates that fit districts of all sizes CTAP Tech Planning Template. CTAP Region 7 can also assist as the team begins to write or at least provide feedback as drafts are finished. Here is a one page document that you can use as a check list. 30 Criteria ChecklistContact Brian Curwick at bcurwick@fcoe.org or 559-497-3786.

Before you submit the plan, make sure everything is in order - a.) Review criteria from http://www.techplans.pbwiki.com and make sure that the cover page is formatted in the provided example , b.) Body of the technology plan saved as one Word document (.doc) Appendix C which is the criteria for EETT-Funded Education Technology Plans with corresponding page numbers.
Now you are ready to submit the technology plan to CTAP Region 7: bcurwick@fcoe.org
AB 307: Chavez Bill
The passage of the Chavez Bill (Assembly Bill 307) will impact technology planning this year. This bill charges districts to “educate pupils and teachers on the appropriate and ethical use of information technology in the classroom, Internet safety, avoiding plagiarism, the concept, purpose, and significance of a copyright so that pupils can distinguish between lawful and unlawful online downloading, and the implications of illegal peer-to-peer network file sharing.” This bill shows up as additional items in the planning criteria found in the grant application (Appendix C). <View the legislation>
