Description Students worked in small teams to research important energy issues and produce valuable audio/video energy awareness global podcasts. The teams included Special Education, SED, ESL, RSP, regular and gifted students, evaluating the pros and cons of alternative energy sources and their effects on the global environment and our society. The podcasts were researched, scripted, and produced by each team, integrating information and pictures from energy web sites and video clips from United Streaming and Google Video. The students’ projects can be viewed at http://www.capousd.org/fnms/showcase.html. Student Learning Outcomes Phase 1: Each student will energy awareness concept maps from rubrics by the teacher. All students will be assigned to complete this task in small diverse teams (2 students). The student teams will thoroughly research online energy issues that affect us in our global society. The teams will next analyze and write scripts using their team members' energy awareness Inspiration visual concept maps. The teams will incorporate energy awareness video clips and pictures from United Streaming and Fagan Finder. Furthermore, all students will be visiting NEED.org and researching energy awareness issues and alternative energies (positives and negatives).
Phase 2: With the energy issues/sources researched and analyzed during phase 1, each team will create an energy awareness audio/video podcast using iLife '06 (GarageBand). All teams will import/edit energy awareness video clips/pictures from United Streaming and Fagan Finder to GarageBand for podcasting. All students' energy awareness journals will be analyzed and scripted by their teammates before creating their podcasts. Each team will be using GarageBand to record audio messages using the USB microphones. All teams will need to follow strict technical audio/video editing and formatting guidelines and grading rubrics for podcasting.
